cornerofsolitude Prime Minister is fag of the week

Posted in Fag of the week, Politics on February 25th, 2007 by FKG

Who would’ve thought that the Prime Minister of Australia could ever become the Corner of Solitude’s next Fag of the week? I did, actually he’s been a prime candidate ever since the day he became PM, alot of people would back me up on that last statement. Which is somewhat of an achievement since that was ten years ago, and was way before the Fag of the week concept was even started (I only started it two weeks ago in fact).

I'd like to thank the people of Oz

I’m very proud to be the fag of the week for Australia

What has the PM of Oz, Mr John Howard, done to deservedly win this week’s Fag of the week award, I hear you ask? The last ten years would be a good enough answer. But this week he has really upped the ante, by enraging thousands of Sydneysiders, your’s truely included.

Sydneysiders endured four days of traffic hell this week, as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and city streets were cleared to give US Vice-President Dick Cheney, whom Johm Howard invited for a little get together no doubt, a clear ride. Not only that, but tax payer funded NSW Police were forced to become Dick Cheney’s personal body gaurds. That’s right folks, some of our most important public servants was pulled out of essential duties, such as protecting the community, just so they can play guardsmen. All because little Mr Johnny Howard can suck up to some American.

Well Johnno, you know what Bill and Ted would say to you right about now? They’d say “FAG!”

cornerofsolitude Dan Kelly

Today I bought Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males’s first album sing the Tabloid Blues. As I was trawling through the cds at a discount music shop in the city, I spotted the album. I remembered I had wanted it for a very long time, but had forgotten about it as my albums-to-get-list just kept building up.

The first time I heard Dan Kelly belt out Checkout Cutie was at the BDO, I knew I just had to have the album just for that song alone. It is the first track on the album. Which is a great way to hook the listener for more of Dan’s bluesy-type earnest singing, music that can only be described as “rollicking” with Dan’s cracking guitar riffs, and lyrics reminiscent of old school pop rock which told hormonal driven stories of love, loneliness and booze.

Song of the day: Checkout Cutie

cornerofsolitude Daydreaming

Posted in Hate of the day, Highlight of the day, Ramble on on February 15th, 2007 by FKG

Have you ever had a strange daydream? Whether it was at work, at school, down the street, at the beach or whiles listening to music. Not just any old daydream, but a proper dream that you would normally have when you’re asleep, only you are fully awake.

I had a very strange one today whiles at work listening to the radio. I can’t remember what was blaring out of the radio (yes I’m one of those who can’t work without a little background noise), but I think it was what triggered my daydream. It was the beat of the drums that made me think of the sound like the rumble of the earth, as if heralding the approach of a massive object. From the distance a shadow almost serpentine-like coiled it self.

And then it suddenly loomed up into the sky like a gigantic dragon. Upon it’s back was an armoured figure, lance at the ready, and about to strike. Then the daydream ended, but I couldn’t seem to remember what I was thinking about before it and what song I was listening to on the radio, all I could remember was that daydream.

Hate of the day : Getting up at four in the morning. Probably the reason why I was daydreaming or more likely I was just dozing off.

Highlight of the day: Pavlova for dessert. Luckily the RSL is just down the street from us and we can nip down for a feed. They serve a mean pavlova.
