A way to work less

So at the moment, as in most industrial facilities this time of the year, it is a shutdown period. Which is what we are doing at work at the moment, shutdown work on the machines while the production is away. This is because maintenance work can’t be done while machines are needed to be run by the production workers. So we have to wait until they have holidays. This time of the year production are on leave for four weeks. While we have to come in and perform necessary work on the machines to keep them up to standards.
During the shutdown periods we come to work early so that we can leave early. But I have decided to come in normal time which is 2 hours later than everyone else. My reasoning is threefold, more sleep, less work and also less work in hot conditions.
If I come in at the same time as my other workmates of a morning I would be losing two more hours of sleep, I need as much sleep as I can get. Even if I do miss out on two mores hours to myself of a daytime and leaving work early, which is the point of coming to work early so that you can leave early, I figure why bother. Summer days are long enough in Australia as it is anyway and I have plenty of hours to do things after work.
I have found a loophole, during shutdown work the maintenance planner or our supervisor hands out the jobs and do the general organizing of a morning for half the day and goes home. So even though I might get jobs that are for the eight hour day, I don’t have to do the eight hours because it is a safety issue. Because they are so strict with the safety standards, God bless the union, they can’t allow anyone to work by themselves and thus I can exploit this loophole. Without the supervisor or other workmates who have all left early I can’t perform any task unless someone stays back.
And so, instead of doing eight hours of work in the Ozzie summer heat I only have to do six. Which is a bodacious plan if you ask me, by yours truly. And the boss knows I start normal time, his orders are to go into the office and do some admin if it needs to be done. That means I get to sit on my arse in an airconditioned office, sweet! shuffling papers around.
